Mission:
The missions never over.
Location: Planetside
Timeline: Current
After hearing Captain Kerr's instructions and that he and Eve were team one, Wyatt nodded and replied. "Yes sir. See you all in the city." Then turned and walked away moving to Eve so they could get started on their trek into the city. Then find out what the Klingons were up to as well as the human with them. Then return to the ship and hopefully get off the planet.
Eve simply nodded opting to not say anything more, she was relieved not to be heading out with Karadis, in all honesty she was wondering how things had gotten so pear shaped between them, she hadn’t intended any offence in anything she’d said. She kept quiet still mulling it over in her head.
Once the pair had put some distance between themselves and the other team, Wyatt looked over at Eve. She had been quiet, and he knew something was bothering her. He could guess it was Karadis but he wanted Eve to talk to him. "Okay, what's wrong?"
Eve sighed. “I somehow managed to offend Karadis. She said it was obvious we care for each other more than the job at hand, to which I said we’d worked our asses off saving the crew by getting the ship on the ground. She took it as I was saying no one else had a part in getting us down! I didn’t mean that! She stormed off and the rest is history.” She shook her head. “Why did they marry us, just to expect us not to care for each other Wyatt?”
Wyatt smiled at her, "Forget Karadis. She overreacted to what you said. It's her problem. "I will say, I am tired of being singled out by the captain. He told me he didn't want any friction on the away team just before we left, if you ask me he needs to talk to Karadis and take his own advice his comments cause friction. As for marrying us, I think he knew he couldn't stop us and two I think they are testing us, to see how much we love each other and how far we'll go before we speak out."
Eve nodded keeping her voice level down now they were out in the open. “Either that or they’re waiting to see how long it’ll be before one of us betrays the ship and crew because the other is in danger.” She looked around keeping aware of their surroundings. “I want you to promise me Wyatt, that no matter what we get the job done.”
"Neither of us is going to betray the ship and crew. Just because we care and love each other doesn't imply that." He gave her an easy smile. "Of course we will Eve. No doubt in my mind." He walked a few more steps before stopping and facing her. "We are united, a team, a couple, husband and wife whether the captain and Karadis like it or not."
Eve smiled and nodded. “We are united, and this team is going to prove everyone else wrong!” She motioned onward. “Let’s keep moving, we can’t let them get too far ahead of us can we?”
Wyatt grinned at Eve, "Right you are darling! Matter of pride after all. We just need to pace ourselves, make sure we rest and get some sleep even if it is only a few hours. Don't want to be foggy brain."
Eve nodded. “We need to look for a good place to make camp enroute, there might be an abandoned building or something we can set up in for the night. Plenty of walking to do before then though.” She offered Wyatt a smile before starting to walk again.
"Or a cave.' Wyatt offered as the pair walked at a steady pace. "I'm sure we will find something to suit our needs."
Eve nodded so far the Terrain wasn’t too bad going, flat enough but two days was a long walk by anyone’s standards. “I wonder what the wildlife here is like?”
"Good question sweetie. Maybe some lions, tigers and bears. Oh my!" Wyatt chuckled as he finished talking. He looked at his tricorder, "I don't see anything on the tricorder."
Eve smiled. “I’m sensing quite a plethora of life, but then we are on a planet!” She grinned. “Let’s keep going as long as we can, once it starts getting dark we’ll have to stop for the night. I plan on being there ahead of team two, let’s call it friendly competition.”
Wyatt nodded, "An excellent suggestion Eve. I think we still have a few hours of daylight before we have to stop for the night. I agree with you. I want to be in the city before team two.”
Eve nodded and kept moving, she had to admit she wished they could have had a shuttle ride to where they were going but stealth was key.
~ A lot of walking later ~
Eve paused to look around, “It’s getting dark we should find shelter for the night.”
"Right, you are Evie." Wyatt said using her nickname. "Let's see if we can find a cave or at least a ledge to provide us with some cover from the elements. Once we do, we can have a bite to eat and then some sleep."
Eve nodded looking around. “There looks to be some higher ground over there, how’s about we see if there’s a small cave we could cram into?”
Wyatt looked in the direction Eve was. "Good eyes Eve. I think you are right." He reached for his tricorder and started scanning. “It is a cave. Not too deep, uninhabited. Should be perfect for us."
“Excellent! Let’s get up there. If we can get hidden away from the entrance we can warm up some rocks for heat and light.”
"Right, you are darling." Wyatt answered taking Eve's hand and helping her up the incline. "I can set the tricorder as a proximity alert as well. So, if anything strays too close, we'll be alerted."
“Sounds good” Eve smiled warmly, approaching the entrance to the cave she was glad to see it was a small sized entrance. Once inside they’d be well enclosed from the elements and from being discovered. She moved slowly inside, then waited for Wyatt to squeeze inside as well.
As Wyatt squeezed inside, he smiled at Eve. "Nice and cozy." He quipped. "Let's get some rocks and we'll heat them to keep us warm through the night. I imagine it will get cold out here. What have we got to eat by the way?"
Eve rifled through her small backpack. “Lovely ration packs! They were easier to pack than trying to bring something more bulky.” She grinned. “Besides they’re not so bad and they do actually fill you up.”
Wyatt nodded as Eve spoke on the ration packs. "Yeah, a gourmet meal in tinfoil. I can't wait to dig into one." He teased. What choices do we have Eve?"
“Take a look..” Eve offered up the packs. “Think I’ll take the chicken dinner.” She smiled as she took her choice. “There’s two of everything if you want the same.” She took the opportunity to look around the small area of cave they were sitting in. “We should start out at the crack of dawn, Give us plenty of time to get there ahead of the natives waking up.”
Wyatt shook his head, "No, no chicken for me at least not tonight. Is there a roast beef or ham dinner by any chance?" He asked as he set the tricorder close to the entrance of the cave to act as a sentry. Moving back to Eve, he said. "Good idea and it will be a little cooler starting early."
Eve nodded and passed out one of the other ration packs to Wyatt. “It’s not exactly going to be a comfortable night’s sleep but we’ll make do.” She smiled before tucking into her ration pack.
Wyatt took the offered ration pack and smiled at Eve, "Oh, I don't know about that Eve. Any night we are together is a comfortable night." He finished with a wink of his eye before opening his own ration pack.
